History of Piedmont Singing Men

Soli Deo Gloria In February 2003, the Singing Men of America attempted to organize a chapter in the Concord-Kannapolis area. Our Program Director, Ed Fink, was among the men interested in helping form the group. A core of 20 men practiced a few weeks, but was unable to get the project off the ground as attendance dwindled each week.

Ed felt that he could organize a similar group of local men. The original choir was made up of 13 men from 4 churches, mostly members of Mt. Olivet Methodist Church. Randy Childers assumed the Director's position and they performed their first concert on July 29, 2003. The men began to recruit their friends to join the choir. Dana Jarrett joined as our accompanist in January, 2004. Over six years and some 135+ performances later, the membership has grown to 47 men from 26 area churches.

On May 7, 2006, the Honorable Robert S. Misenheimer, Mayor of Kannapolis, presented a proclamation and the Key to the City to the group, commending the ministry of the Piedmont Singing Men. The text of the proclamation is available here (click link). The file is an Adobe PDF file and will need a version of Acrobat Reader, available here (latest version). Most computers have a version installed by default.
